Uber moves into grocery and convenience-store deliveries

  • Uber is expanding its food-delivery business to include everything from groceries and convenience-store items to cinema popcorn
  • It is looking to use its network of some 4m drivers to fill the gap between ordering from Amazon-style warehouses and more traditional grocery delivery services such as Ocado
  • Uber Eats has become vital to the company’s overall revenue growth, which slowed to 14 per cent in its second quarter. However, Eats was a bright spot, with revenues jumping 72 per cent and its monthly active customers up 140 per cent compared with a year ago.
