More plastics, less land; Quantify shale boom to US growth

The damage caused by the 350 tonnes pf plastic produced every year exceeds the industry’s annual profits. Environmental damage is shifting from an externality to a business cost. Despite being light, cheap and versatile, single-use plastic products are becoming socially unacceptable.

Manufacturing production has been on a rise and the slump that began last year is possibly ending. Energy accounts for nearly 27% of total industrial production, close to it’s all time high, due to growth of shale.

The problem with investing in plastic alternatives is so many are startups that are bootstrapped. I don’t know of any publicly traded companies operating in this space yet.

If anyone does, please fill me in

I’m excited for this dedicated space more than a more generic ESG view, when it comes to environmental investing.
